This morning I spent a good few hours sewing seeds and weeding in the garden. The power of a little therapeutic gardening was very restorative . Like many it has been so easy to spend far too much time looking at the latest headlines and getting stressed. The feelings of frustration that it is all out of our control makes it worse somehow. So other than strolling through blogging posts and my lovely IG friends I’m trying to make a conscious effort to seize the day and enjoy what I have.
Reading matter has reflected these feelings. I’m reading a butterfly book by Matthew Oates which is grounding me and making me look forward to butterfly season. It’s not quite as readable as Patrick Barkhams’s Butterfly Year but still a very informative read. Before that a little light romance in the form of the first Seven Sisters novel by Lucinda Riley. Many people have recommended this series. The first set primarily in Rio and Paris tells the story of the first sister discovering who her real family was. Much of the narrative is set in 1920’s Paris.
Walking continues ,of course, when the wind isn’t blowing a hooley and the rain abates. The weekend saw a couple of days of sunshine which was much needed. Daffodils are everywhere and the first blooms of magnolia are appearing in the earlier flowering varieties. Set against an azure blue sky they are stunning. In the hedgerow, blackthorn has started to flower and bird song echoes from every branch.
Back home the evenings are spent crocheting more squares for my sock wool blanket. It’s beginning to take shape. Avocado dyed wool is also being turned into yet another pair of socks.
So how about you? What keeps you smiling at the moment?
